Can you help?

Dorset History Centre and the Bankes Archive Project need your help in identifying the people and places captured in these photographs.

Daphne, Viola and H.J. Ralph Bankes regularly used their Box Brownie cameras to snap pictures during their childhood, particularly from 1909 – 1915. Throughout this period they regularly travelled and met an awful lot of people! It seems they were often with their nurse and governess, who feature in some of the images below, but we are yet to pin down the identity of these women.

We’ve picked a selection of 20 that we need your help in identifying, but there are many more images in the archive that remain a mystery. Please let us know in the comments if you recognise anything. Let’s solve these mysteries together!

You can view some of the images here.
